Hello friends!
Today, I want to share some of my favorite little tips for journaling layouts — simple tricks I often use when creating my daily spreads.
Most of my journaling pages are paired with calendar sheets.

Some calendar pages have large illustrations, so I like to cut them into two pieces and paste them separately. When the calendar design happens to match the inner page color scheme, I’ll paste the whole sheet directly.
Almost every journal spread I make includes some basic washi tape — such as grids, polka dots, or solid colors. These tapes often act as dividing lines, helping me define the structure and balance of the page.

So today, let’s go through my easy 4-step layout formula together and see how you can create a clean, beautiful journaling page in just a few minutes!
Step 1: Use Washi Tape to Define the Structure
Start by using washi tape to decide your overall composition.I usually use the tape as a central line to divide the page into upper and lower sections. For this demo, let’s use two inner pages — one with a cool tone and one with a warm tone.

On both pages, apply a strip of simple washi tape: slightly higher on one, slightly lower on the other.
Step 2: Play with Calendar Pages
Next, let’s add an expired calendar sheet to create our layout focus.
- For the first style, I cut the calendar in half and paste each side along the washi line.
- For the second style, when the calendar color complements the inner page, I paste it as a whole piece.
By observing the layout, you’ll notice — on the left page, the bottom has more empty space and the main elements lean slightly to the left. So, let’s balance it by adding some stickers or a small stamp on the right side.

Step 3: Add Stickers and Stamps for Balance
When choosing ink colors, try to stay in the same tone as your page.
If you’re unsure, black or gray always works — they’re timeless and go with everything.
On the right-hand page, the bottom area might look a bit empty too. Since the calendar is already pasted on the right, I’ll add a stamped design to the left of the tape.

If the lower right still feels a little blank, you can layer in a few more stickers or a subtle stamp.
I chose a warm, skin-tone ink that blends nicely with the page for a harmonious finish.

Step 4: Add Your Title and Writing
If this page is for a detailed entry, add a small title — preferably in a color that matches the page, written with a slightly darker pen so it stands out cleanly.

For the main text, I always use black ink. It anchors the colorful materials and keeps the writing clear and tidy.
And when you reach the end of the page but don’t have much left to write, just add a thin washi strip or a few mini stickers to fill the blank spaces — it gives your spread a polished, complete look.

A Page That Feels Clean, Balanced, and Calm
And that’s it — a simple 4-step formula that makes any journal page look balanced and beautiful.
It’s easy, relaxing, and incredibly satisfying once you see everything come together!
